I thinks this is what Honda has done for such clean power. And if I bought a new gen-set that would fix the problem,,,, if I want to listen to the thing run for X number of hours,,, I think the inverter is what I'm looking at to throw in between the generator and the battery charger to keep it clean,,,
will search for it on the net,,, thanks

not sure I'm following you here...
my trolling motor is 36 volt,,,, can't change that,,, or don't want to, me likes the 36 volts for that set-up
are you saying use a battery switch to isolate the three batteries to make them 3 12 volt batteries again and use a second 12v alternator to charge them? I dunno if that can be done,,,,l'm not smart enough to know that !!! :donno but it sounds interesting?

That is impossible.

You can wire three batteries in parallel to charge all with 12 volt, while still hooked up in series for 36 volt at the same time, only, so you can use 12 volt off one or all of the batteries at the same time you are wired for 36, DC can be run in series and parallel at the same time, so you can build up voltage or build up amps in storage for use

Dam you made me think back 37 years to DC class at Beep school

You can not have 3 batteries wired up in parallel and in series at the same time.

Easy to draw up a diagram and you will see why it can't be done.

Yes it can, it is done all the time, try it and see, your only getting the voltage to that the load is tapped too, so you can get 12,24 or 36 all out of three batteries at the same time.

My TM is 36 volt, so I'm in series on three batteries for 36 , the same batteries at the same time I ran the radio and all the toys off the TM batteries at 12, I hooked the 12 volt in parallel so not to just drain one battery and ran like that for five years

All MCI buses uses 24 volts to start in series but everything on the bus is 12 volt, wired parallel from the same two batteries

Take 3 D batteries and wire them in series. Then take some wires and add parallel connections so that all 3 batteries are in parallel as well. Be careful, your hand will get burnt. :lol3

If you are just talking about putting a load on one of the 12V batteries, that is something completely different and that is not putting the batteries in parallel.

This is 3 batteries in parallel

This is 3 batteries in series

Take that series connection and add connections between all positives of the batteries and then connect all the negatives and you have a massive short.

The batteries can be in different counties for all I care, it's the circuits (the way the wire runs) that are series or parallel or both as needed, prove it to your self wire batteries in series and then use a volt meter on each battery and tell me the voltage isn't still 12 volt on each battery using the + - on each battery.

So like has been done, going from neg on first battery and pos on 3rd battery will give you 36 for your TM, at the same time you can run wires to each + - of each battery put all the +'s and -'s together , you now have 12 volts and 36 at the same time, off the same batteries or a series, parallel circuit that will stay balanced

OK You Two What do you think about this layout...
Batteries in Series 36 v 12 v.png

Since marine batteries come with duplicate posts on each connection why not utilize them in making this work for the man?

Note on second thought I need to look deeper into this... My batteries have two distinctive attachment points separated in non conductive plastic. I realized after posting many batteries are conductivity connected so this wouldn't work for them... Will haft to look deeper into subject.. :coffee

The 2 batteries on the left have dead shorts!
EDIT: All the batteries have dead shorts.

Uhghh! Where's the "bang my head against the wall" icon!

Yes, and they are electrically connected! All marine batteries that have the extra post are still electrically connected!
