Flo torque ii vs iii
I have a flo torque iii on my opti 75, went to my local marine shop to get a extra drive sleeve to have on the boat just in case I need one. The guy sold me a flo torque ii and said it will work for the flow torque iii.
Is this correct? Why would there be differant part numbers for the sleeves if so?
Being its for a spare to keep on hand I won't know till the time comes I may need it so I just want to make sure.
Thanks

Re: Flo torque ii vs iii
A flo torque is an interesting piece of machinery... sounds quite impressive.... the differences between a i, ii, and iii must be perplexing, even to the highest educated mechanic.... sometimes the opti 75 acts like a 76, and sometimes i before e, except after c, unless you're using version ii. if you're using version ii, you must keep in mind the geometry of the torque is greater than the angle in version iii. version i was outdated when the capacitor began missing beats, so it was replaced with an interchangeable version ii and ii.02....

Re: Flo torque ii vs iii
The tangential torque vector of the ii is modulated across the bandwidth of the stern wave to produce subsonic resonance which will cause palpitations in bikini-cad wimmin within a radius approximately equal to:Themacdadt wrote: So your answer is??
(OAL / rpm) + pi**displacement(in cc's) (result in millifurlongs, of course).
Note that OAL is the overall length of ALL your pontoons, so if you have a 24 foot tritoon, it's 24 * 3
By contrast, the iii is black plastic. (Some wimmin prefer that.)

The ii is black plastic also....SO I guess no one knows with absolute certainty what the answer is?BobG wrote:The tangential torque vector of the ii is modulated across the bandwidth of the stern wave to produce subsonic resonance which will cause palpitations in bikini-cad wimmin within a radius approximately equal to:Themacdadt wrote: So your answer is??

Some of these guys are really stuck on 'flux capacitors' and are trying to get you Back to the Future. I applaud them heartily.
A serious reply that you shouldn't take too seriously as I am no expert:
FloTorque is a unique system developed by Mercury Marine. The concept is as follows...Start by throwing out all your old props as you can't use them. Then buy a FloTorque prop. The most common insert system is the FloTorque II (I use them). The prop basically has a smooth square hole in the center rather than a round one with splines. A very tough square delrin insert along with an adaptor for your particular motor's splines goes into the prop. The whole mess gets bolted onto the outdrive along with some thrust washers and such.
The beauty of the system is several-fold. First, the plastic insert acts as a 'shear pin' of sorts. If you hit a rock, you will 'spin your prop' kind of like the old rubber hubs used to. This insert actually sacrifices itself so your gearing doesn't get eaten during the strike.
It is super easy to swap out inserts. Most people don't even bother carrying a second prop, rather just a small bag of parts and inserts. Even the lock washer was redesigned and a bit easier to take off and on.
Mercury was genius in developing adaptors for all splines of most brands. This allows a person to put a FloTorque prop on just about any motor made!
The FT IIIs and IVs have various 'shock absorber' goodies in them. I don't know much about them, but I believe they are mostly used on lower HP motors.
Now if I could only get my gravity inductor above 80%
